There is a need for a new thermodynamics textbook aimed at physicists, chemists and other scientists. All scientists and engineers have to take a course on thermodynamics in their first/second year. Generally they are firstly taught thermodynamics and then many of them, although not all, take a course on statistical mechanics. Consequently the market is large, yet Wiley have relatively few books on this subject and nothing recent that is aimed at this introductory market. Thermodynamics is a core part of most science and engineering degrees, yet is a topic that students often find more difficult and less interesting than other subjects.
