Chemical Project Economics

This book is an introduction to a very dynamic subject of Chemical Project Economics. It is aimed at students of Chemical Engineering as well as practicing Engineers. It would also be useful to management students for a better appreciation of the economics of not only chemical projects but also that of any project. The book covers the finer aspects of process selection and site selection along with the project economics. It provides an overview of product pricing and presents an annual report of a chemical project for a better comprehension of the project economics. This book would help Engineers working in industry to understand intricacies of preparing a detailed techno-economic feasibility report as part of pre-project implementation activities. This book has been designed bearing in mind Indian conditions though the basic concepts are universal in nature. The basic concepts outlined here are applicable to any projects and in that sense it will be useful to project managers and engineers from all the disciplines, dealing with non-chemical projects also. About The Author: V.V. Mahajani superannuated as Professor of Chemical Engineering from Institute of Chemical Technology (now ICT and formerly UICT/UDCT) Mumbai, 400019. He has two years post-doctoral research experience at University of Cambridge (UK). Prior to teaching experience of 23 years he has about eight years industrial experience in the field of production, research and project engineering. Professor Mahajani supervised several research scholars for Ph.D. and Master Degree in Chemistry/Technology/Chemical Engineering. He has published about 80 research papers and presented several papers in conferences. He has co-authored a book: Joshiand#39;s Process Equipment Design. He is a life member of The Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and Fellow of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences. He is now freelance process consultant and visiting Faculty at ICT. S.M. Mokashi is a Chemical Engineer from ICT and IIT. He was Director of Davy Power gas India Ltd (now Aker Solutions)-a project engineering organization. He brings in very rich industrial experience of more than four decades. He has executed and managed chemical projects with them. He was Manager, Process Engineering and Director, Marketing and amp; Technology. He also established Xytel India Ltd and was its first Managing Director. While in industry he shared his experience by presenting papers at various conferences and has several papers to his credit. He was awarded the prestigious NOCIL award by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) in 1984 for the excellence in process design and development. He was visiting Faculty at ICT. He is Distinguished Alumnus of ICT. He is Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and a life member of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers.
