Elastic Stability of Structural Elements is designed for a one-semester course for undergraduate/ graduate programmes in aerospace, civil, mechanical engineering and applied mechanics. This well organized text discusses applications of both classical and numerical techniques like finite difference and finite element for structural problems in engineering. Various techniques have been compared in terms of accuracy and convergence. It would also be useful for practicing engineers in various fields of engineering. It essentially consists of two sections. In the first section, one-dimensional structures, comprising of columns, beams and frames are discussed; in the second section, two-dimensional structures are discussed. In both the sections, elastic and inelastic behaviour of structural elements is analyzed. A distinguishing feature is the illustration of the techniques through numerous worked-out examples. Another distinguishing feature is the addition of a section on fiber reinforced composite materials.
