At present there is no source available giving comprehensive data required in the design of electrical machines such as properties of electrical, magnetic and insulating materials, the details for small, medium and large A.C. And D.C. machines including induction and synchronous machines, transformers and other special machines.The aim of the book is to present such data in a single volume in SI units through tabulations and charts. The first three chapters are devoted for the conducting, magnetic and insulating materials and the succeeding chapters for windings, leakage reactance, design procedures, losses and temperature rise calculations. The book will be of immense use to the university students, faculty in electrical engineering and practising engineers concerned with electrical machine design. The compilation is intended as an adjunct to standard text, as well as a data book for designers. It is the result of several years of teaching electrical machine design to the undergraduate and postgraduate students of electrical engineering at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.The information has been collected from various books, journals and IS specifications taking care to adopt recommended symbols. A list of references has been provided to indicate the source material.Electrical machine design is a core subject for the electrical engineering students of almost all Indian universities. Data books are now being permitted by the universities to be used in examinations. It is hoped that this volume will be a suitable material to serve this need.
