English Critical Tradition Vol-2

The publishers have great pleasure in offering the world of scholars in English literature the second edition of the two-volume anthology of English literary criticism tracing its growth from its simple beginnings down to the sophistications of modern times. This is the first volume. The second edition of this comprehensive anthology of British and American Criticism in two volumes has been revised and it has a supplementary introduction presenting briefly the concepts of structuralism and its later developments - reader-response criticism and deconstruction theory and practice. The second volume includes an essay on structuralism by Jonathan Culler where the author discusses the origin and development of this discipline showing how it might revitalize literary criticism. The volumes are intended primarily for postgraduate scholars and so applied criticism based on linguistics, structuralism and deconstructive terms - dealing largely with European classics - could not be included. About The Authors: S Ramaswami retired as the Professor of English from Presidency College, Madras in 1969. V S Seturaman retired in 1985 and has since been working at Madras on a UGC project.
