Overview of Operations Research Book
Operations Research is designed as a textbook for undergraduate students of science and engineering. It is intended to help them understand and apply operations research techniques in industrial operations and to create awareness on optimization in utilization of resources. The book may also be used as a reference for management courses as well as research studies in this field. The book introduces basic topics such as formulation and graphical solution of linear programming problems (LPP), simplex and revised simplex methods, duality and sensitivity analysis, transportation and assignment models. It then moves on to advanced topics, such as sequencing and scheduling (critical path method and program evaluation and review technique), dynamic, integer and goal programming, game and decision theories, queuing, replacement and inventory (deterministic and probabilistic) models, simulation, non-linear programming and classical optimization techniques. Seven appendices at the end of the book discuss a few preliminary mathematical concepts in brief and provide a few tables that would be helpful in solving certain problems provided in the book.
