STEER (Sensitizing to Think, Enabling Excellence and Rationality) is the print edition of Jaypee's widely attended live interactive CME module of the same name, part of the "Lessons from the Grand Rounds - A Pediatric Series" by YK Amdekar, RD Khare and RR Chokhani. The live STEER module has been conducted as a 6-hour interactive program more than 150 times across the country and abroad, and this book was created because attendees wanted a print format to revise the concepts covered in the live sessions. We reproduce the live interactive program on the page: questions are interspersed within the text exactly as they were posed in the workshop, and readers are meant to pause, think, and formulate their own answer before reading what we think is the answer. The book is organized in 8 chapters that mirror the module's own sequence - how to start with any patient, evaluating seriousness, arriving at a provisional diagnosis, taking a focused history, general examination, and then a symptom-by-symptom clinical approach to growth, fever, cough, and abdominal symptoms.
