THE POLICE RAJ Book Information:

in a British-time Presidency-town, beginning fragmentarily first at Madras in 1806 with a Superintendent of Police, and then consolidated in 1856, under the Government of the East India Company for Calcutta and Bombay under the Police Act of 1856, is, after our freedom from the British yoke, outrageously undemocratic in any free, civilised country and society. These only three Presidency-towns of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay were named as such because the British factories and their fortifications were headed by Presidents. All of them were of British blood who were allowed by Mughal emperor Jahangir in 1618 to administer their possessions according to British laws. These Courts in any form now are unconstitutional as violative of the letter and spirit of Article 22 (2), read with Articles 19, 20 and 21, of the Constitution of India. Hence, these Courts be abolished. Even the home of such office, England, has long ago buried this remnant of feudal tyranny and vulgarity. Elsewhere, it was never conceived.
